Biomass is the oldest form of renewable energy, but the use of fossil fuels has caused its use to decline over the years, particularly in the developed world.

With environmental concerns, such as climate change, becoming more important, biomass will increasingly become part of our country's energy mix.

Some of the benefits of biomass include:

  • Reduced emissions, including greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Increased energy security;
  • Additional jobs in the local region, particularly in the agricultural and forestry sectors; and
  • Reduced waste as biomass that is currently buried in landfills can be recycled to generate electricity.
